Massilia, Mélanie, and Lina live and work in Aube. But with their non-profit association “The world within reach”, they have planned a humanitarian trip to Madagascar. Three weeks planned for next September and October to go “support, help and accompany the vulnerable population in need, to improve their living conditions”. The deadline is approaching and things are speeding up for the trio.
And the volume of business already collected (chocolate sales, Christmas market, donations, etc.) exceeds their expectations. And they hope to still receive clothes for the children and dressings, compresses, bands, splints… “We are considering completing a container for the delivery of these supplies. »
Days in the bush with a team of volunteer caregivers
“More than 80% of the Malagasy population lives below the extreme poverty line. The vast majority live in rural areas, sometimes far from everything…, underline the young women. And hospitals lack equipment. » Their solidarity and social action project therefore aims to get as close as possible to these populations to provide them with care and health prevention.
They also opened an online fundraiser via “helloasso”, to raise funds to pay expenses, and distribute there to hospitals, orphanages, etc.
What organization is there? “I kept in touch there during my first humanitarian trip in February 2023”specifies Massilia, at the initiative of this association. They are leaving with an international solidarity organization for reasons of security, ease of transport and accommodation on the Red Island. “We will spend our days in the bush with other volunteers, doctors, nurses, translators… to provide medical care to the villagersexplains the nurse. The village chiefs are notified. There are sometimes hundreds of people who come for these consultations”remembers the nurse. She warns her friends: “The work days are intense. »
Her two friends look at each other: “It’s an opportunity for us and a great life experience. » And already know: “We will not come out of such a trip unscathed. » Any apprehensions? (Animals, diseases, safety, etc.) “The first two weeks, we will be supervised and advisedspecifies Massilia. Then we will be self-sufficient. We then plan to go to schools, orphanages and hospitals to distribute the clothing and medical equipment collected, and meet women in prisons. »
“The world at your fingertips” is open to anyone who would like to join the association, and why not, participate in an upcoming humanitarian trip.
