It should be noted that the Middle East, Asia and Europe were the best performing regions in terms of international tourism in 2023.
According to forecasts, a complete recovery of global international arrivals is expected by the end of 2024. Also, the 2019 level should be returned thanks in particular to the release of the rest of the compressed demand, the increase in air connectivity and to the more vigorous recovery of Asian markets and destinations.
For the case of Madagascar, in particular, the number of tourist arrivals in 2023 has reached almost 65% of pre-Covid levels, indicates the Madagascar Tourism Confederation.
This is the result of the joint efforts of stakeholders and especially the multiplication of air frequencies, it is emphasized.
However, more efforts must be made for an effective recovery of the Tourism sector in the country. Among other things, the Big Island must work to urgently improve the air transport offer by increasing the number of seat capacity rotations, welcoming new foreign airlines, or even consolidating domestic air service. It is also imperative to quickly rehabilitate road infrastructure and strengthen security on national roads and tourist areas. Strengthening the skills of workers in the THR sector and the development of tourism offers and products are also among the projects to be prioritized for the development of the tourism sector in Madagascar, it is emphasized.
