Amboasary Sud will host an unprecedented festival in June. This is the Caméléon festival, the first of its kind in the Anosy region. It will be held from June 13 to 15 and concerns the two surrounding districts including Taolagnaro and Ambovombe. This festival, initiated by the NGO Cameleon, will be of great scale to judge by its raison d’être and its objectives.
Biodiversity is in any case a crucial issue for Madagascar. And chameleons, like many endemic species, have invaluable value in maintaining ecological balance. The disappearance of these predators of harmful insects could have a significant impact on the health of the communities. In addition, 42% of chameleon species around the world are in Madagascar and nowhere else, making these endemic species an economic and tourist source. Moreover, one of these life species in Amboasary Sud only.
But the festival will also be large in terms of support and partnerships. Never has a festival experienced such great support from institutions, since various ministries have been used, such as those of the environment, culture, health, tourism and crafts or fishing.
The private sector is not to be outdone, with Yas Madagascar or the star who have also chosen to be part of this adventure.
This festival aims to encourage the change in behavior theoride towards chameleons within the community of Amboasary Sud, by highlighting the importance of the conservation of these unique species, through workshops, conferences, exhibitions and fun activities.
The festival will of course have a significant cultural and tourist aspect.
Various cultural and or artistic events are planned, including a traditional dance competition “Ntanosy” and “Ntandroy”, but also a Miss and Mister Amboasary-Sud competition. A large parade that will highlight traditional outfits and hairstyles specific to local culture will also be on the program. The concerts and shows that will punctuate each day of the festival will not be outdone. 18 artists will share the scene during the 3 days, with the headliner Black Nadia, Ceasar, Ange-Lah or Southern Robin among others.
