Presentation of the second edition of “Grandes vacances à Toliara” last Friday. |
For five days, Toliara will be a destination center for holidays through the “Great Holidays in Toliara”, which will highlight activities in “Dubai de Toliara”.
The “Dubai of Toliara”, or the beaches of Andaboy, will once again be highlighted this year. After the success of the first edition of “Grandes vacances à Toliara” in 2023 with nearly ten thousand people registered, the organizers promise to do better for this 2024 edition.
The Andaboy dunes are located outside the town of Toliara and began to be exploited for tourism last year. The “Great Holidays in Toliara” is a concept for promoting the tourist destination Toliara and Atsimo Andrefana, with the Andaboy dunes as a venue for various events. “The Andaboy dunes will host parties, demonstrations of cultural sports such as Doranga, canoe races, motorcycle races, treks, escape trips to the renowned sites of Atsimo Andrefana and shows with adored singers will be organized,” explains Lalaina Razafitombo, manager of the event agency Bakao Services. Promoters of “Great Holidays in Toliara”, such as the Toliara Regional Tourism Office, as well as partners such as security and telecommunications companies, gave clarifications on the event last Friday in Toliara .

The event will be held from August 22 to 25 and aims to attract national and foreign tourists as well as residents of Toliara, to come and see first-hand the beauty of the Andaboy dunes with its sands as far as the eye can see. Various activities will be organized to accompany the descents in “Dubai de Toliara”. Exhibition stands for handicraft products, catering, various games and activities will not be outdone. Singers like “Kifr” and “ALG” will warm up the atmosphere. On August 23 and 24, a speedboat escape to the seaside village of Anakao on the southern coast, as well as an excursion to Nosy Ve to contemplate straw-en-queue birds and whales, is offered. A “Trek’twenty” hike on the RN9 with a visit to the Ambondrolava fish farm and the Tsingorintelo mangroves, followed by a karaoke session in Beravy and a Zumba beach, promises to be interesting.
Other activities for thrill-seekers and discovery seekers are on the menu for the “Great Holidays in Toliara”. “Security in Andaboy will be ensured by the police. Local residents are involved in the success of the event,” said the organizers. Reception facilities such as parasols and sanitary facilities, which were sorely lacking last year, “will be improved”. The sea currents in Andaboy, on the other hand, should not be neglected in order to avoid drowning accidents. The local authorities want to be reassuring regarding the situation of insecurity which has reigned recently in Toliara. The city of the sun is… quiet.
Voluntary fires are starting again in the Ihorombe region. This time, it is inside the Isalo National Park that they are ravaging. Local tourist guides contacted explain that the fire started late yesterday evening on Sunday near the Malaso circuit and spread along the RN7.
Photos circulated yesterday showing that the lights are very close to the national road. Travelers were able to take these photos from their car, and the lighting given by the lights is very visible. Two weeks ago, a fire was deliberately set north of the Isalo Window by disgruntled coal miners because they were prohibited from mining on that side. The area burned is not yet estimated; yesterday, at first glance, several hectares were still blackened by the fires. The Isalo circuit is a dry savannah trail leading to various sites such as the Isalo boot or the paragliding mountains. Criminals are expected to be pursued by law enforcement. The national park is in danger. Fortunately, according to the latest news, hotels are not threatened by fires.
