Saturday will be a big day for Gray. Five candles on the clock and an EP which is imminently out, the group thus signs a step towards a professional career
Gray, mainly pouring into a naked metal, gently but surely traces his way. The four accomplices will meet the public at the Ankatso ADMC-Craam for a discovery day and an afternoon in concert with the support of Rooxicomania Production. They will present their first EP called “Madafaka”. A name that says a lot and as punchy as its content. With six titles, this first Gray project is a combination of Madagascar, the native country of members of the group and “Faka” which means root in Malagasy. Between a common identity of the band and a homecoming, then goes for “Madafaka”, with this consonance as explicit in English.
According to Navalona, the group’s vocal lead, “Madafaka” is a way of proclaiming loud and clear that youth takes serious subjects such as climate change, socio-economic and political instability … Inspired by daily life, “Madafaka” brings above all a message of awakening and hope, plunging at the same time in an introspection on societal life in Tanà. On the six titles, we find “Sampy”, “Mampalahelo”, “Wake Up”, “10 Isan-Jato”, “Izay Tiako” and “Tsofy Ny Afo”. Coming from several musical universes, each member of the group brings their stone to the building. With styles and rhythms ranging from slam to electro, via rap and spoken word, while having rock as a base, the nude metal then becomes obvious.
Created in 2020, in the midst of a health crisis, Gray finds his genesis in introspection and claims with Navalona on the microphone, jt on the guitar, mandrier on bass and Nyaina on drums. Indeed, in one way or another, the COVVID caused upheavals in everyone, as well as in global society. “We then felt this urgency to say and change things. We need to proclaim this claim in relation to the helplessness of the people in the face of social problems. We need to express this rage and awaken consciences, and music remains an effective channel to transmit messages ”continues Navalona. To discover this universe, go to the ADMC-CRAAM Ankatso on Saturday.
