The city of Varatraza will house for seven days, from September 12 to 20, the Biennial Festival of Urban Dance Godié Hype Hope. From then on, a press conference on the festival was held at the 70’s Grand-Pavois attitude in Antsiranana, on Saturday August 30.
Created in 2019, this event is today in its 4ᵉ edition. The objective is to bring together enthusiasts and especially the fourth art followers in the city of Sugar Bread. “Godié Hype Hope is made up of several disciplines,” said Chamina Sakina, the organizer. Thus, in addition to dance, urban art will be highlighted. Beatbox, rap and djing will be in the spotlight. “This year, we have chosen the concept of urban village … We will set up stands: street food, cultural shops, a space dedicated to health because we have estimated that the mental and physical health of artists is very important. Then there will be a place for the screening of hip-hop films … We will invite two dancers from Tana and an artist from Diego-Suarez who will be the headliner: Allan Smith. Rapper Yo Kenny will also be present. A dance course will also be organized from September 12 to 14 at the Montagne des Français, in Nosy Ravo, in order to promote the tourism sector, ”detailed the initiator. In addition, a regional battle is planned. Choreographers from Antalaha, Antsohihy, Mahajanga and the Host City will expose their talent.
The name of this festivity dedicated to urban art is most original. Godied is Diego upside down, while the two English words hype and Hope mean “craze” and “hope” respectively. Thus, it is with a heart filled with enthusiasm and hope that these devoted young people high the culture of their locality. Admittedly, they highlight hip-hop, but it will of course be mixed with a local touch, because this area has no limits. Urban culture, although still despised by certain pseudo-conservatives who point the finger at those who engage in it, continues to conquer the hearts of adolescents. Moreover, Antsiranana has always been a choreographers’ nursery since the 1990s. How many local dancers have raised trophies during national competitions! However, this positive image has faded over time. Godié Hype Hope therefore aims to give back to the fourth art its primary liveliness.
Ultimately, this biennial festival of “an an-day art”, as amateurs call it, promotes both emerging talents, tourism and cultural entrepreneurship.
