TOURIST DEVELOPMENT - Promoters are banking on sports tourism

Press conference on the “Festikite” festival 3rd edition, yesterday.

The landscape and magnificent beaches of the Big Island will serve to welcome more tourists, but in a different way. In fact, the country is now focusing on sports tourism. A momentum that was taken a few years ago, at the end of the Covid years. Tourist events such as the Island Games, or even new hobbies such as kitesurfing, have helped to revive local tourism, particularly in the regions concerned. This year, the third edition of “Festikite” unfurls the sails. It will take place from August 18 to 28 in Antsiranana, in Sakalava Bay.

The event was a resounding success during the first two editions, helping to make the Big Island a preferred destination for this sport, followed by millions of fans around the world. In consultation with the private sector, the Ministry of Tourism has chosen to dig this promising vein. The organizers intend to work harder this year, combining tourist and sporting activities.

Note that last year, world kitesurfing stars made the trip to take advantage of the clemency of the elements in Madagascar to practice this discipline, thus attracting fans of this sport from all walks of life. According to the Ministry of Tourism, “this is the perfect opportunity to further develop the Madagascar destination through this sport. » The disciplines offered are varied and adapted to each age category. With its five thousand kilometers of more or less welcoming coastlines, the Big Island seems to be an ideal spot for kitesurfing.

The objective of the Ministry of Tourism, as well as that of the organizers, is to further develop the practice of this sport in order to position the Red Island among international kitesurfing destinations. One hundred participants are expected for this edition, with competitions for amateurs and professionals on the program. Madagascar, blessed with heavenly beaches and flamboyant nature, has all the assets to develop sports and adventure tourism.
