Madagascar welcomed 57,778 tourists during the first four months of 2024

In April 2024, Madagascar recorded 20,895 tourists, or 2,238 more visitors compared to the previous month, according to data from the Ministry of Tourism and Crafts.

Although it is higher than the same period last year (18,657), this figure is still lower than that of 2019 (24,035), we note.

According to data provided by the Ministry of Tourism and Crafts, 57,778 tourists were welcomed to Madagascar during the first four months of 2024.

The number of international travelers is increasingly approaching pre-Covid-19 tourist arrival levels. Stakeholders in the field of Tourism remain confident and indicate that the recovery of tourism on the Big Island is confirmed.

Additional efforts are nevertheless urgently needed to hope to receive more tourists in Madagascar and allow a real effective revival of the sector. Indeed, major obstacles such as the lack of air connections, particularly on the internal network, and the poor state of road infrastructure remain.

The Ministry of Tourism and Crafts recently launched an ambitious project aimed at improving tourist transport in southern Madagascar. The aim is to simplify traveler travel while providing a quality experience in line with international standards, with particular emphasis on traveler safety and comfort. This project provides for the establishment of four routes connecting the main tourist sites in the region, such as Morondava, Fianarantsoa, Manakara and Tuléar. The innovation lies in the fully digitalized reservation system, with the possibility of also booking physically in the agencies. Operation of the project will be entirely entrusted to the private sector. This tourist transport project promises to open new prospects for the Malagasy tourism industry by simplifying access to tourist sites and strengthening the appeal of Madagascar as a destination of choice for travelers from around the world, indicates – your.

In a move aimed at strengthening the tourism sector, the ministry also issued 61 authorizations to open accommodation and catering establishments during the month of April 2024. In addition, raising awareness among tourism operators to register in the formal framework, initiated since August 2023, continues at the national level.
