The NGO ADES Madagascar is committed to preserving Madagascar’s forests and livelihoods by producing solar and energy-efficient cookers while investing in reforestation projects, in addition to popularizing environmental education.

During the last reforestation campaign, this promoter planted 356,000 young plants, 36% of these species are planted to provide wood energy and the other 23% are intended for the development of agro-forestry. “Still of these 356,000 reforested young plants, 34% of them are made up of native species reserved for forest restoration while the remaining 7% are made up of bamboo species with rapid growth potential that we have just cultivate in our areas of intervention. The objective is to manufacture bamboo pellets which are wood pellets obtained from the exploitation of bamboo stems and which will be used as fuel », explained Jean Sendrahasina Andriananjaniaina, the executive director of education and reforestation within ADES Madagascar.

570 beneficiary households

Still within the framework of promoting these green investments, this NGO is committed to contributing not only to the restoration of forest landscapes in Madagascar to fight against climate change but also to improving food security by developing agro -forestry including food crops. “In fact, the development of reforestation of eucalyptus species intended for wood energy requires at least seven years to be exploitable while the partner village communities are very vulnerable. This is why we recently launched the planting of fruit trees and food crops allowing them to improve their livelihoods and sources of income.he continued. It should be noted that nearly 570 households distributed in intervention areas such as Matsiatra Ambony, Atsimo Andrefana, Atsimo Atsinanana and Boeny, benefit directly from these reforestation and reforestation projects carried out by ADES Madagascar through the creation of jobs or the exploitation of wood for energy or the collection of harvests from agro-forestry.

Specifications

On the other hand, this NGO requires partner village communities to respect specifications in terms of silvicultural techniques for better survival of plantations without forgetting the security of their land. “As part of a sustainable development approach, we are committed to ensuring the replanting of reforested areas in the event of destruction linked to climatic hazards as well as the monitoring of maintenance work until the 3e year of planting when a higher survival rate is recorded. The implementation of firewalls is not left out »underlined this executive director of education and reforestation within ADES Madagascar. Apart from partner organizations, this entity works directly in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development to exploit public forest areas with a view to promoting reforestation and bamboo planting projects intended for the manufacture of fuel, large scale.
