Do you know the Three Bays of Diégo, in the north of Madagascar? – Rasamy’s blog

It seems that the bays of Diego are among the most beautiful bays in the world. Visiting the famous Three Bays of Diégo is therefore a must in the program for tourists who spend their stay in this northernmost part of the Big Island.

Excursions to visit the three bays of Diégo can be done by car or on foot. But the most sensational thing is going on a quad bike ride. To do this, you make the complete tour from the town of Diégo to Ramena beach via the Three Bays: Sakalava Bay, Pigeons Bay and Dunes Bay.

After 11 km of asphalt road on the road to Ramena, we first take a short break at the reception center of the famous tourist site called French Mountain. We then take a sandy track which leads to the first bay of Diégo which is none other than the Sakalava bay. The latter is well known for being a very good spot for windsurfing and kite surfing, the place being very windy.

After a short break in Sakalava Bay, you will continue your quad ride to observe the oldest Baobab in Antsiranana and even in the country. This large tree characteristic of the Big Island is already more than 400 years old. You can read the explanations about this species on a panel installed next to the tree.

The hike then continues through the Oranjia Forest, a vast natural forest located near the coast before arriving at the second bay called Pigeon Bay. A little photo break is in order here.

The third bay which bears the name Baie des Dunes is particularly splendid. Here you have a very calm turquoise sea with a particularly pleasant white sand beach. It is the ideal place to swim and rest.

After swimming, it is also here that the guide prepares a picnic meal for you consisting of fish, crabs or chicken according to your choice.

In the afternoon, before returning to the town of Diégo, the hike first continues on the coast above the famous great pass, the obligatory passage for boats before entering or leaving Diégo Suarez. Here you still have the remains of maritime surveillance infrastructures from the colonial era, including the mined Cap lighthouse.

The walk then continues towards Oranjia beach then Ramena beach where a short break is also necessary before resuming the 18 km asphalt road towards the town of Antsiranana.

The quad hike is therefore punctuated with swimming breaks and picnic meals. In short, a great day of relaxation, discovery and sport, a must do if you plan to spend your vacation in Diégo.
