Undertake

“Regular hotel establishments face unfair competition from illegal and undeclared guest houses, which have become numerous. During the vacation period, schools are transformed into hotels, and individuals welcome tourists and vacationers into their homes. These informal activities are detrimental to the formal sector,” lamented the hotel operators.

The ORTB board of directors promised to look into how to integrate these informals or sanction them if necessary. For its part, the Mahajanga Maritime and River Port Agency (APMF) will take charge of the redevelopment of the disembarkation quay for the reception of cruise ship passengers, at the ferry quay.

Regarding non-payment of the sticker, cooperation will be offered to encourage hotels to pay. According to operators, the poor state of the RN4 road infrastructure contributes to the deterioration of the national tourist destination of Mahajanga.

Some operators also suggested undertaking improvements inside Mariarano Cave and Belobaka Cave, located in Mahajanga district.
