On November 30, Fondation H Saturday will be dedicated to the screening of artists’ films, performances and discussions.
The next H Foundation Saturday will be titled Teacher Don’t Teach Me Nonsensedrawing inspiration from the iconic song of the same name by Nigerian musician Fela Kuti.
It will see the participation of around ten local and international artists. Among them there will of course be Fela Kuti, Gabriella & Silvana Mangano, Vonjiniaina Ratovonirina, Richianny Ratovo, Belly Sid, among others.
This day will be curated by Aude Christel Mgba, curator at the Museum de Fundatie (Netherlands) and advisor for KADIST.
This program is, in fact, part of a collaboration between KADIST, a non-profit contemporary art organization based in Paris (France) and San Francisco (USA), and this Malagasy art foundation contemporary. Notably through KADIST’s Double Takes program, a series of collaborations with different art centers and organizations, taking video works from its collection as a starting point.
This initiative is deployed in response to Memoria: stories of another story, the current exhibition at the H Madagascar Foundation.
Colonial heritage
Video works selected from the KADIST Collection will therefore be screened in order to explore the intersection between creation and transmission of history, on the one hand, identity construction and collective memory on the other.
In his song Teacher Don’t Teach Me NonsenseFela Kuti emphasizes that democracy itself, at least in what it embodies and carries in its history, is a colonial heritage. The program invites critical reflection on the notion of governance and the societal structures established in the processes of decolonization.
Three distinct parts
This day will present three parts. The first part will examine the complex and intertwined relationship between mental state and history.
The second part of the program will explore collective identity, resistance and the place of the body.
Finally, the third and final part will turn to personal and historical writing.
The artists will host this great moment and will mark their presence between the screenings and the debates.
So head to the H Foundation for history buffs.
